DocumentationPermissionsStandalone

Deprecation warning! Standalone permissions are an older permission model that has been mostly superseded by the organisational permission system. It is still available as a fallback until the organisation BETA is complete, and for small setups and personal use, but we recommend using organisations for anything more complex.

In the future, we may phase out standalone permissions entirely and cease supporting them, so please consider migrating to organisations when possible.

Before organisations were implemented, FoxStock used a standalone permission system. This system is still available today and is useful for individuals or small groups who do not want nor need to bother with setting up an organisation. In the standalone model, permissions are assigned directly to each stockpile or network.

Much like in organisations, permissions trickle down! When you assign permissions to a network, all stockpiles and sub-networks inside it automatically receive the same permissions.

This approach offers finer-grained control. Owners can create user groups for their personal assets and give each group different permissions on a per-network or per-stockpile basis. For example, you might grant one group WRITE access to a specific frontline network while allowing another group only READ access to a single backline stockpile.

However, standalone permissions do not scale well. Because permission lists are tied to individual assets rather than a central organisation, owners must maintain these permissions manually for every network they build and every group they create. This is manageable for a personal stockpile setup or a small friend group, but becomes difficult as the number of assets or users grows.

Best for small setups. Standalone permissions give excellent precision, but the manual management makes them impractical for larger groups or formal organisations.

How does it work?

This permission system applies to stockpiles and networks much like asset permissions in organisations. In fact, it was the precursor to the organisational permission model. You can give:

  • MANAGE: Full control, including deleting assets and editing settings, contents, and targets.
  • WRITE: Can change settings, contents, and targets.
  • SUBMIT_ITEMS: Can submit item updates only.
  • READ: Can view asset details, inventory, and network structure.

Use SUBMIT_ITEMS for members updating inventories, WRITE for asset managers, and MANAGE for senior logistics.

How to set permissions?

To set standalone permissions, go to the stockpile or network you want to manage, navigate to the Permissions tab, and add users or user groups with the desired permission levels:

  • To add users, click on “Add User”, enter their Foxstock ID, select the permission level, and click “Send”.
  • To add user groups, click on “Add User Group”, select the group, select the permission level, and click “Send”.

At the moment, the field where you put the ID is showing “Email”, but it is actually the FoxStock ID. This will be fixed in a future update.
