What are network-specific targets?

Network-specific targets let a stockpile have different targets depending on the network it belongs to. This is especially useful when a stockpile participates in multiple networks that serve different purposes such as BACKLINE, PRODUCTION, or FRONTLINE operations. Instead of defining one “default” target on the stockpile itself, officers can encode different needs for each context.

For example, a stockpile used by cooks may require 300 Basic Materials when viewed as part of the BACKLINE network, but when considered in a PRODUCTION network, that same stockpile might need 120mm shells instead, with no Basic Materials required. Network-specific targets make this possible by letting you define item requirements per stockpile, per network.

Network-specific targets only affect recommendations when viewing a stockpile within the context of a specific network. They do not override stockpile targets globally.

These targets can be set either from the stockpile page, where each network section lists the stockpile’s targets for that network, or from the network page, where each stockpile section lists its targets for the selected network.

Network-specific targets vs network targets

Network-specific targets and network targets solve different logistical needs.

  • Network-specific targets apply to individual stockpiles within a network. They let a stockpile behave differently depending on which network context you are viewing. Use these when a stockpile’s role varies across networks.
  • Network targets, on the other hand, apply to the entire network as a whole. Instead of defining individual stockpile targets, you define the total amount of an item the network should collectively maintain. The system then evaluates the aggregate across all included stockpiles. Network targets are ideal when you want to express high-level goals without micromanaging each stockpile.

Important: Network targets do not drive the recommendation system. Only stockpile targets and network-specific targets influence recommendations.

How to set network-specific targets

Prerequisites

You need at least WRITE permission on the stockpile or network to set or modify network-specific targets.

You can define network-specific targets from either side:

  • From the stockpile page: go to Targets → the section for the network you want to configure. The section should be named like “Network: [Network Name]”.
  • From the network page: go to Targets → the section for the stockpile you want to configure. The section should be named like “Stockpile: [Stockpile Name]”.

Both views show the same data, just from different perspectives.

Open the target section

Inside the Targets tab, each network (or each stockpile, depending on which page you are on) will appear as a collapsible section. Opening the section displays the current network-specific targets for that stockpile.

If no targets are set, the section will be empty and ready for new entries.

Create or edit network-specific targets

Click Add to create a new target. Select the item you want to define a target for, then enter the desired quantity in the field to the right. Modify existing entries by editing the same field.

Network-specific targets apply only to that stockpile within the context of that network and will appear whenever the stockpile is viewed inside that network structure.

Set flow direction

Network-specific targets also require setting a flow direction to indicate how items should move relative to that stockpile within the network. See Flow direction for more information.

You might not see the flow direction option immediately. If they are not visible, try saving and wait for the targets to reload; the flow direction settings should then appear.

Save the target

Click Save to apply changes to the current section.

The “Save” button only saves changes to the active section. After finishing all modifications across different sections, you must click Save all at the top of the Targets tab. If you forget this step, only the changes saved individually will persist.
